My First Visit to the Stanley A Milner library!

Sunday, October 16th, 2016

It’s my very first visit to the Stanley A Milner library in downtown Edmonton! Just a short walk from my condo, I was thrilled to see the library was busy preparing for the big launch tomorrow night! A great display as we entered into the children’s section and a warm welcome from each of the librarians! I can’t wait for my residency to begin! You can view updates on my events on my Facebook page at Facebook/diannabonderartist

A big thank you to Stephanie and Elaine!

It’s Official! I have been chosen for the Joanne Fitzgerld Illustrator in Residnce Program 2016!

Monday, October 10th, 2016

I am so thrilled to announce that I have been chosen this year for the Joanne Fitzgerald Illustrator in Residence Program at the Edmonton Public Library, Stanley A. MIlner branch. From October 17th to November 10th, I will be at the downtown branch teaching workshops and classes to elementary schools, workshops with adults, one on one portfolio reviews as well as a few outside appearances at Nina Haggerty and surrounding high schools.

The Joanne Fitzgerald Illustrator in Residence Program was developed through the assistance of Joanne’s family and IBBY Canada and each year, a Canadian Children’s Illustrator is selected to share their work and ideas with children in a central library environment. For the past three years the program has been offered in Toronto however, this will be the very first year that Edmonton has hosted this program

I will be travelling to Edmonton by car with my two daughters and a whole lot of stuff. We hit the road this Thursday and plan to take a leisurely drive through the Rockies and arrive by Saturday. I plan to keep a blog of my travels right here for those that might be interested as well as on Facebook. Each day there will be something new to report and to see! I can’t wait to meet all you Edmontonians and to share my passion for books and illustration with you!

See you all soon!

School Tours A-Plenty!!

Friday, March 7th, 2014

So many schools so little time!! Spring is in the air (minus all the snow) and I am getting geared up to begin some very exciting tours over the next few months. From a week long tour of the Okanagan to some of my favourite schools (can you believe it’s been four years since my last tour of Kelowna!) all the way to Calgary/Edmonton and back to Vancouver and finally Vancouver island. As A,B,Sea celebrates it’s 6th month on book shelves I am thrilled to share this new book with children far and wide! As well, I have TWO new books in the works…..two more covers for Sam’s Top Secret Journal and a ton of other new stuff!! So keep checking back because there is sooooo much to see!!

Beaty Museum….rain or shine?

Saturday, November 3rd, 2012

Just had a visit to the amazing Beaty Museum at UBC today and wow, what a place! I was there to speak on a panel with fellow CWILL members about bringing science to children (childrens literature spcifically) From the moment you walk in you are greeted with the amazing blue whale skeleton which was dug up by scientists on a beach in PEI. It certainly was a tough act to follow however, I did get to share my work and talk about science in my illustrations…which was really a pleasure considering I never thought in a million (no…make that trillion) years that I would ever be discussing my work among scientists. Quite inspiring. Now I am on my way back to Gabriola Island amid torrential rains and fog….but alls in a days work and how often does one get to walk beside a blue whale skeleton! Wow!!!!!

Alegria or Bust

Saturday, September 11th, 2010

DSCF2487 My travels this week took me to see Alegria, a Cirque de Soleil production playing in Victoria, BC. It was a wonderful way for me to celebrate some mommy and daughter time with my daughter Ekko and our good friends Raena and Christy. A road trip with this bunch is always fun and exciting and worth writing home about! The show was amazing and it was such a pleasure to see my daughter and her friend sit with their mouths in a perma grin and their eyes as big as pies. I can’t even imagine what it must be like to be six years old and watching a Cirque de Soleil show…it just wasn’t an option when I was a kid.

Our travels then took us to the amazing Rebar restaurant, of which I own the cookbook and have made dozens of their recipes at home. It was an exciting opportunity for me to taste the wares from the makers themselves. We ate till our tummies begged for us to stop and then we ordered dessert!

On our journey home we had the great pleasure of bumping into the creator of Bamboletta dolls as she was snapping photos of her new family. Apparantley, these dolls sell in less than 5 minutes on her website once she uploads them. No kidding! They are amazing and the girls loved them!!

You can view her dolls and listings at Amazing!!

Cowichan Valley in the Fall

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

I’m going to be visiting schools in the Cowichan Valley in late October and I’m so looking forward to the trip.  I always enjoy visiting with the children, but this is also one of my favourite spots on Vancouver Island, BC, so I’ll be doing a bit of sight-seeing as well.
